Selected Artworks - late 1990s

Experimenting with the notion of light, time, and space, I tried the burning technique as a way to create black. Black was created by the "absence of light". During this period I was more involved with "chance, happening, and accident" by working with my left hand(I am right-handed), incorporating techniques that did not allow my years of heavily trained techniques. My interest was in the implied space beyond the physical measurable picture plane. The notion of "yeobaek in Korean art," the unoccupied space was investigated by composing the positive elements with Hans Hoffman's "push and pull" theory.
