Artworks  2000 - 2012

"Nobang," Korean transparent-colored-silk became the crucial medium for the creation of the intended saturation of color. Many works were created based on my personal experiences of "Miniere Disease" from 2009 to 2012. During the first two years, I struggled with the complete loss of mobility, battled with physical, mental, financial and spiritual challenges. With limited mobility and vision, I began to work again in 2011.

“Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awoke, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”                 ― Zhuangzi

This painting was done after my grandfather's passing. Death is expressed as "returning" in Korean culture. He has returned to where he came from.
